Memories triggered by events

Crown psychiatrist Karen Zelas claimed that victims use "dissociation
and denial" to protect themselves.
She stated that denial of memories of a traumatic event may effect the
process of memory retrieval until such time as the person feels secure enough
to do so or is triggered by later events.
