reviews Ellis case
A Dunedin Queen's Counsel is
reviewing the Christchurch Civic Childcare Centre case for ways the case
against Peter Ellis can be reopened. Ellis, a former worker at the creche, is
three years into a 10-year jail sentence imposed for sexually abusing
children in his care at the creche.
Controversy has dogged the case with critics saying Ellis's convictions on 13
charges involving six children at the creche were based on unreliable
evidence. The option of an independent inquiry into the case has been
considered at Cabinet level and rejected. A recent article in ``North and
South'' magazine has again stimulated debate.
