A City Possessed
Sir - Anyone reading A City
Possessed, Lynley Hood's impeccably researched study of the Peter Ellis case
(book review, November 3), must ponder on whether the city had not fallen into
Alice in Wonderland's otherworld.
That all this was taking place in
the 20th and not the 15th century, must be greeted with utter bewilderment.
There is no doubt that the book will be required reading both here and
internationally in academic circles.
But will the book only remain of
academic interest and command no further response from us? Where are those who participated in this
travesty of justice? Any further decisions at this stage are political.
But what about "natural
justice"? In keeping with these politically correct times is there no
spokesperson from the five estates who is prepared to stand up and say,
"Sorry, Mr Ellis, we got it wrong."
So Christchurch, how about somebody
demanding that this matter is not yet finished?
