Goff remains firm

No new
evidence has emerged to justify reconsideration of the Peter Ellis case,
Justice Minister Phil Goff said yesterday. Ellis, freed in 2000, has always
maintained his innocence in the Christchurch Civic Creche
child abuse case. Now many well-known New Zealanders are lending their
signature to a top-level inquiry into his conviction. They aim to gather
signatures of about 100 prominent New Zealanders. Mr Goff said he was not
persuaded there was good reason for such an inquiry.
