Letters to the Editor:
Ellis Case has become a party political issue
by B.H Howard

We who have long maintained the innocence of Peter Ellis are pleased this issue has not gone away, and we welcome the initiative of the group of eminent persons.

It is regrettable that the matter is becoming party political; the petition is introduced by Opposition MPs, and we have an obdurate Government minister. As a result what should be a concern of the conscience of individual MPs is now subject to the dictates of party whips.

Despite his desire to protect his embattled minister, the Government Whip should keep out of this.
