Creche case
Letter to the Editor, by Ian Hood, Blenheim

The good news is that a number of prominent people remain determined to have the preposterous Peter Ellis witch-hunt (June 8) dragged out into the light and the people responsible for it identified.

Predictably they are up against the tooth-and-nail resistance of the police and prosecuting authorities, who never want any case reopened for any reason: too many jobs, promotions and egos are at risk.

The bad news is that the minister of justice is the spineless Phil Goff, who is about as likely to defy the legal establishment as to smack Helen Clark in the teeth.

No wonder the
New Zealand criminal justice system is seen by many as a farce scripted by Spike Milligan in collaboration with Lewis Carroll.

The campaigners must keep trying, but don't look for any progress under this minister.
