Creche Case, Letter to the Editor
by J. E. Wilson, Tai Tapu, June 21
Sir--I have been
following with increasing irritation the continuing support being afforded to Peter
Ellis.
I agree with Phil Goff (June 19), this matter needs to be put to rest after the
many opportunities that have already been at Mr
Ellis' disposal within the justice system to rectify any possible miscarriage
of justice.
The insidiousness of child abuse, and abuse in
general, is more common in the community than the general public would like to
acknowledge, and the power of denial of those involved is very strong.
We have seen this in recent years with the conviction of several in positions
of power and trust who for years went undetected.
Unfortunately in an abuse situation, the very victims of abuse are unable/unwilling to speak out in their own defence and are just trying to get on with normalising their lives without having to relive the abuse
again through constant regurgitation.
