Peter Ellis
Letter to the Editor
by Suzanne George,
(Dunedin)

How tacky of Auckland businessman Barry Colman to offer a $100,000 reward to anyone willing to "recant" or "confess" in the Peter Ellis case (ODT, 25.6.03). Only the rich are able to "buy" justice. Just like those few substantiated ACC false sexual abuse claims for $10,000 by poor women, how would we ever know if such a "confession" was true or false at such a price? Perhaps Mr Colman could offer a similar inducement for information leading to an inquiry into alleged child sex rings covered up in Dunedin and Christchurch, allegedly attended by middle class professionals and those in very high places, or an inquiry into child prostitution in New Zealand, particularly among those children under CYF care in Dunedin and Christchurch (ODT, 27.5.03).

Criminologist Dr Greg Newbold,
University of Canterbury associate professor of sociology, contends that for ever dollar stolen by the poor, $40 slides quietly into the pockets of the "relatively pampered". I propose a royal commission of inquiry into the financial dishonesty, blaming of victims and the sexual appetites of the middle classes.

Adolph Hitler was an author obsessed and able to incite mass hysteria. I strongly suggest the petition calling for a royal commission of inquiry into the Peter Ellis case falls into the same category.
