Ellis not innocent
Letter to the Editor
by Debbie Kean, (Auckland)
It is
with some interest and unease that I read Frank Haden’s column on the Peter
Ellis case, and subsequent letters (July 6).
Ellis has had numerous appeals, inquiries and the ministerial inquiry which is
currently being denigrated by the very people who called for it some time ago.
Many people believe that Ellis can never “prove his innocence” because he is
not innocent.
If everyone who claimed innocence of a conviction such as Ellis’ had as many
attempts at appeals as Ellis has had, and were still found guilty, their
supporters would have given up.
But that shamelss self-publicist and author Lynley
Hood and the various anti-feminist and anti-religious groups campaigning for
Ellis won’t give up because of their need to believe the worst of religious
people, mothers and feminists. It’s just sad.
