Miscarriage of justice
Letter to the Editor (Abridged)
by John Welch (Picton)
Like
several of your correspondents, I once held a naive view that the justice
system would robustly reject nonsensical evidence against any accused person.
As the Christchurch Civic Creche case was in progress, I recall mounting alarm
at the absurd nature of a lot of the evidence. There might well be entrenched
attitudes on both sides, but I challenge any person of normal intelligence to read
Lynley Hood's book, A City Possessed,
and not realise at once that there has been a terrible miscarriage of justice.
