Show some courage
Letter to the Editor

Barry Colman has dispelled the myth that no abuse occurred in terms of the Christchurch Civic Creche case. Indeed the video transcripts suggest not inconsiderable harassment of victims by CYFS interviewers

Poor Peter Ellis - guilty of nothing other than his sexuality - became a repository for a community's collective neurosis and prejudice.

And it is just Ellis' luck to have his case aired during the time of a timid minister of justice. Phil Goff's self-righteous mantra about the need for new evidence is pure sophistry because the case has never been based on evidence but rather the selective echoes and fantasies of impressionable young children.

New evidence is not only an impossibility in the circumstances, it is a contradiction in terms. At any rate, it is no substitute for courage.
