Ellis campaign on the web
Publisher Barry
Colman puts further testimonies from children at the Christchurch Civic
Creche on to a website
The campaign to clear the name of convicted child molester Peter Ellis is now
on the web.
Publisher Barry Colman's site contains further testimonies from children at
the Christchurch Civic Creche.
Mr Colman says the jury in Mr Ellis' 1993 trial was not shown much of the
evidence from the children's testimonies, including some of that shown on the
new web site.
He says that the jury was not shown the evidence because it would have been
obvious the children were using their imaginations rather than re-telling
actual events.
Mr Colman says Peter Ellis was convicted on 16 counts of abusing seven
children, despite the fact there was no physical evidence, and there were no
adult eye witnesses. He was convicted solely on the testimony of seven young
children.
On the website, Mr Colman points out that the oldest and most credible of the
child witnesses later retracted her allegations, saying she lied about what
happened because she thought that was what her mother and the interviewer
wanted her to say.
There's also an opportunity to sign the petition calling for a Royal
Commission of Inquiry into the case.
Peter Ellis has steadfastly maintained his innocence and even refused to go
forward for parole because he said that would imply that he accepted his
guilt.
