Fighting the Ellis memory war with statistics
Letter to the Editor
by Lynley Hood (Dunedin, Aug 22)
How odd that Jeffrey Masson and Emma Davies (August 21) choose to fight the
Peter Ellis round of the memory wars on the battlefield of statistics.
Even if their analysis were correct (which it is not), that would not mean
that Peter was guilty.
Presumably Masson and Davies want us to believe that child sexual abuse is so
prevalent that any and every allegation should be believed. Never mind about
reliable evidence or due process. Just lock the bastards up.
In any event, the studies cited by Masson and Davies have been either
discredited, or misrepresented.
