Committee decides on handling of Ellis petition
Justice Committee
meets to discuss handling of petition calling for Royal Commission of Inquiry
into Peter Ellis case
A Parliamentary committee will begin deciding today on how best to deal with
the petition calling for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the case of
convicted child molester Peter Ellis.
The Justice Committee has already received the petition from author Lynley
Hood and National MP Don Brash, as well as a submission from the Justice
Department.
Committee chairman Tim Barnett says it needs to decide whether it will hear
from those making submissions in person.
He says it may be several weeks before the committee finalises how it will approach
the issue.
