United Future leader Peter Dunne
is calling for a review of evidence laws in the wake of the Privy Council
decision on David Bain. Mr Dunne says the Privy Council
has identified serious deficiencies in the way evidence is presented and
shows that the process is selective. He says similar allegations have
surrounded other well-known cases in the past decade, including those of
Peter Ellis, Rex Haig and Scott Watson. Mr Dunne says the Law Commission
should review both the rules of evidence and court procedures. However, a Government spokesperson
says new rules under last year's Evidence Act ensure that all evidence is
admissable unless there is a good reason to exclude it. |
