Dunne backs Peter Ellis inquiry

United Future leader Peter Dunne is backing calls for a Royal Commission of Inquiry to be held into the conviction of Peter Ellis.

Ellis' lawyers are seeking the inquiry into his 1993 conviction for molesting children at the Christchurch Civic Creche. He served two thirds of his ten year sentence.

Peter Dunne says there is a serious risk that a grave injustice has been done, and there is enough doubt over the investigation that a Royal Commission to examine the case is necessary.

He says Peter Ellis deserves the chance to clear his name if he has been wrongly convicted.
