The Christchurch Civic
Creche Case |

Peter Ellis says the Government's
decision to turn down his latest bid for a Royal Commission of Inquiry is
inevitable. Mr Ellis has always maintained his
innocence after being convicted of molesting children at the Christchurch
Civic Creche in the early 1990s. He served two-thirds of a 10-year jail
sentence. His lawyer Judith Ablett-Kerr made
the request for a Commission of Inquiry after two recent publications which
she claims back-up his case. One cast doubt on the questioning techniques
used with child complainants. Mr Ellis says he is not surprised
the inquiry has been rejected, as he has heard not a lot of work was done on
the request. He also describes Associate Justice Minister Rick Barker as a
light-weight.
