http://www.3news.co.nz/Ellis-campaigners-denied-inquiry/tabid/423/articleID/125444/cat/238/Default.aspx Three News Campaigners wanting a commission of inquiry into the case of convicted paedophile Peter Ellis have been left disappointed. In 1993, Ellis was convicted of 16 counts of indecency in relation to seven children in his care, and sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. Justice Minister Simon Power has denied an inquiry, because Ellis has not exhausted all his appeal rights. Author Lynley Hood, who wrote a book on the case, says it was a dramatic and distressing event in New Zealand's history, and it must be looked into. Ms Hood says the case is responsible for driving men out of early childhood education.
