Tests into Christchurch girl's death could take several weeks

The police say results from further post-mortem forensic tests into the death of a 10 year old Christchurch girl could take several weeks.

Charlene Makaza died in hospital on Sunday after she was found in bed unconscious the previous morning.

The initial post-mortem examination indicated she was suffocated.

The police have subsequently ruled out the possibility that there was an intruder in the house.

Detective Inspector Malcolm Johnston says the police are continuing their inquiries with the girl's family and examining the Ilam house.
