Charlene Makaza investigation goes door to door

Police investigating the death of 10-year-old Christchurch girl Charlene Makaza are going door to door in the street where she lived.

Police believe Charlene was asphyxiated and say she had injuries consistent with a violent sexual assault.

She died in hospital in early January.

Detective Inspector Malcolm Johnston says police are trying to find someone Charlene may have confided in about any worries she had in the days or weeks before her death.

He says 18 officers will be working in the area around the Hollyford Avenue home for the next three to four days.
