Alleged killer in court
by Mike Steere

Alleged child murderer George Evans Gwaze raised his fists in the air, clapped his hands, and waved to his wife during a brief court appearance in Christchurch yesterday.

Gwaze, 54, appeared in the District Court charged with sexually violating and murdering his niece, 10-year-old Charlene Makaza, in January.

Gwaze was remanded in custody while police inquiries continue.

No date was set for a depositions hearing.

Judge John Bisphan remanded Gwaze to reappear on March 29 for a further pre- depositions conference.
