Family support for murder-accused uncle

The family of a Christchurch man accused of murdering his niece has turned out in his support.

The depositions hearing for George Gwaze is underway in the Christchurch District Court.

The 54-year-old is accused of murdering and sexually violating 10-year-old Charlene Makaza, who died in Christchurch Hospital in January.

The Crown will present evidence from 58 witnesses, of which seven accounts will be heard in court.

Gwaze's wife, son and daughter and three other family members were in court, and all smiled at Gwaze.
