Lawyer: unlikely Crown will appeal Gwaze acquittal

The lawyer for the Zimbabwean man acquitted on charges of murdering and sexually violating his niece thinks it is unlikely the Crown will appeal.

The Crown alleged Charlene Makaza was suffocated during a sexual assault at the family's home last year, while the defence said she died of an HIV-related infection.

The High Court jury in Christchurch yesterday found George Evans Gwaze not guilty on all charges.

His lawyer Jonathan Eaton believes despite forensic that evidence initially looked hard to overcome jury's verdict should be the end of the case.
