Sex abuse victim spent 20 years trying to forget, court told
NZPA

The alleged victim of sexual abuse by a former Boys Brigade leader and ambulance officer has told a court he spent 20 years trying to forget what happened.

Father-of-two Neville Cyril Collins, 44, went on trial in the High Court at Rotorua yesterday on 37 charges of indecent assault, sexual violation, assault, attempted indecent assault and performing an indecent act on six boys between 1984 and 1998.

The boys were aged between 11 and 16 and Collins was 21 when the alleged abuse happened.

The abuse allegedly happened at Boys Brigade camps in Auckland and around the North Island.

Collins' first alleged victim said he was about 10-years-old when he was abused by Collins while on outings.

He said he had spent the last 20 years trying to forget.

"Some things are very very difficult to forget," he said.
