Ropati charged
by Jared Savage

Former Kiwi league legend Tea Ropati has been charged with drink-driving after allegedly being caught at twice the legal limit on New Year's Day.

Ropati recorded 821 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath when stopped on Pitt St, Auckland, on January 1. The limit is 400mcg

The 43-year-old failed to appear at Auckland District Court when the charges were laid last week.

Lawyer Gary Gotlieb said his client was out of town.

The matter was put off without plea until February.

Ropati, who played seven tests for the Kiwis and 72 games for the Warriors league teams, was automatically banned from driving for four weeks because he was allegedly twice the 400mcg limit.

Three years ago Ropati appeared in the Fight for Life boxing match, losing on points to another ex- Kiwi Tawera Nikau. Ropati did not return Herald on Sunday phone calls.
