NZ Herald Former Kiwi league legend Tea
Ropati has been charged with drink-driving after allegedly being caught at
twice the legal limit on New Year's Day. Ropati recorded 821 micrograms of
alcohol per litre of breath when stopped on Pitt St, Auckland, on January 1.
The limit is 400mcg The 43-year-old failed to appear
at Auckland District Court when the charges were laid last week. Lawyer Gary Gotlieb said his
client was out of town. The matter was put off without
plea until February. Ropati, who played seven tests for
the Kiwis and 72 games for the Warriors league teams, was automatically
banned from driving for four weeks because he was allegedly twice the 400mcg
limit. Three years ago Ropati appeared in
the Fight for Life boxing match, losing on points to another ex- Kiwi Tawera
Nikau. Ropati did not return Herald on Sunday phone calls. |
