Newstalk ZB The lawyer for a former Kiwis
player accused of rape says his client is not a predator. Tea Ropati is on trial at the
Auckland District Court facing six sex charges, including rape and sexual
violation, following an incident in 2006. The Crown alleges Ropati took
advantage of a very drunk woman by sexually violating her, at an Auckland bar
and in his car. Defence counsel Gary Gotleib claims
the complainant had been involved in a cocaine, marijuana and drinking binge
and was very much a willing participant. He has told the jury they must
decide whether his client is a predator or merely a creature of
circumstances. |
