AUCKLAND: The woman who says she was raped by former Kiwis rugby league star Tea Ropati had genital injuries and was tearful when she was examined, a doctor told his trial.

Ropati (42) has denied six sex charges, including one of raping the woman in an Auckland park in 2006.

At his jury trial in the Auckland District Court yesterday, Dr Ann Williamson, who specialises in sexual trauma victims, said the woman, who cannot be named, was distressed when she was examined some hours after the alleged incident. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying and she had genital injuries at three sites.

On day two of the trial on Tuesday, the woman told the court Ropati should have done the honourable thing and sent her home because she was so drunk.

The charges arose after the pair met in a Ponsonby bar in mid-June 2006.

The Crown has told the court she was too drunk to consent to any sexual connection, but the defence has argued that she was a willing partner.

The trial continues.
