My man made a stupid and drunken mistake
by Tammy Buckley

The wife of Tea Ropati has spoken of her love for the fallen rugby league star and why she is standing by her man.

Vanessa Ropati said the court case, where Tea was acquitted of rape and five other sex charges, had made their relationship even stronger.

In this week's issue of New Idea, Vanessa said her husband's infidelity was a "drunken mistake.

"Tea and I share something so much bigger and so much more than fooling around in a drunken mistake. He was a stupid twit for doing it but I knew that was all it was," Vanessa told New Idea.

After the couple had an argument in June, 2006, Tea left home to go drinking in town.

He met a woman, who he flirted with throughout the evening. The pair left together and the woman later accused him of rape.

Vanessa, who had only been married to Tea for three months when the incident happened, said she knew in her heart her husband was innocent, and the love they had for one another kept them together during the harrowing 18 months it took for the case to get to court.

The couple have just celebrated their second wedding anniversary and were looking to the future.

New Idea is on sale today.
