Defence waits for forensic evidence on charge of false rape complaint
NZPA
Invercargill: An Invercargill woman accused of making a false rape complaint is
convinced forensic evidence will prove her claim is true, Judge Phil Moran was
told in Invercargill District Court yesterday.
The 37-year-old woman, who has interim name suppression, is charged with making
a false rape report to police on June 19.
Counsel Phil McDonald said Environmental Science and Research had conducted an
extensive scene investigation after the complaint was laid.
"Hopefully, from the defence point of view, it will prove that there was a
rape," Mr McDonald said.
Sergeant Blair Anderson, prosecuting, said it would be at least three months
before the test results were available. Police said they had evidence the
woman's complaint was false.
"I understand there may be some video indicating what has been told to the
police is somewhat different from what has been recorded," Mr Anderson
said.
Judge Moran remanded the woman until November 7.
