Historic abuse claims investigated

Timaru Police are investigating five allegations of historical abuse against staff at the Salvation Army's Temuka Children's Home.

Salvation Army spokesperson Robin Forsyth says four men and one woman are alleging they were physically or sexually abused at the Bramwell Booth Childrens Home in the 1970s.

At this stage, neither the police nor the Salvation Army are discussing the individual details of the complaints.

In August 2003 the church acknowledged it had received 36 allegations of abuse, including the five currently under investigation.
