Sex abuse victims to act against Salvation Army

Victims of a former Salvation Army Captain convicted of historical child sex charges plan to take action against the organisation for not acting on the abuse.

A High Court jury last night found 69-year-old John Francis Gainsford guilty of three charges of rape, one of attempted rape and 18 indecencies against seven children.

They relate to his time as a manager of a children's home in Temuka in the 1970s.

One of his victims says justice has been done against John Gainsford, but the Salvation Army is also a culprit as it failed in its duty of care to the victims by ignoring their reports of abuse

The victim says she and others will get together to plan their next move
