I thought Children's Commissioner
Cindy Kiro was a public servant. As such, she has a duty to work within the
letter and spirit of our law. Her endorsement of Air New Zealand
and Qantas policies of asking male passengers to move if seated next to a
child is a clear breach of human rights legislation. I don't think the Government or
most New Zealanders want to see men discriminated against in this or any
other way. I've always believed men and women should have equal rights and
opportunities. I won't be moving if asked, and I am sure many more will
refuse now that this disgraceful and, I suspect, illegal policy is out in the
open. No women are being asked to move. I note Virgin Airways asks its
cabin crews to use their common sense. I want Dr Kiro dismissed. The
airlines' policy will lead to more anti-male sentiment and discrimination. |
