Rape allegation cop offers to stand down
The senior policeman at the centre of a
revived allegation of rape has offered to stand down for three weeks.
Assistant Commissioner Clint Rickards is one of three men accused of raping a
woman in Rotorua in 1986.
The Police Commissioner has announced an inquiry to review the handling of the
original allegations, after the woman claimed there had been a coverup.
Clint Rickards says he is pleased there will be another inquiry, and is
offering to take leave to ensure its impartiality.
He strongly denies the allegations.
