More cops accused of rape
A rape counselling
service says it knows of other cases involving rape complaints against police
officer haven't made it to court.
A commission of inquiry is being launched into the police handling of
allegations against Assistant Commissioner Clint Rickards, and two former
police officers.
And the police team re-investigating that alleged rape,
is also now looking at the case of a Northland woman who says she was raped by
an officer in 1988.
Caroline Day of the Auckland Sexual Abuse Help foundation says she knows of
four cases in the past 18 months where women laid rape complaints against
police officers, but none made it to court.
Day says in at least one case, police persuaded the woman the complaint
wouldn't stand up.
