Top cop: No wrong-doing
by Steve Hopkins
Waikato's top
policeman, stood down amid investigations into police pack-rape allegations,
says he's done nothing wrong and expects to return to duty.
Superintendent Kelvin Powell was stood down on Saturday as inquiries into
allegations made by Rotorua woman Louise Nicholas widened.
Today, through his lawyer Susan Hughes, Mr Powell "categorically denied
any wrong-doing".
Ms Hughes said Mr Powell was "confident the inquiry would clear him of any
wrong-doing and return him to full duties".
She said Mr Powell had been given a stand-down notice, but had heard nothing
more from the inquiry team.
