Christchurch case not linked to current inquiry

Police in Christchurch say a 1997 complaint about an improper search is not linked to current sexual allegations

Christchurch police maintain a local woman who wants a complaint to be part of a national inquiry into sexual allegations against police, has had her case fully investigated.

Thirty-six-year-old Maria Black says she was subjected to an improper search by Christchurch police in the central police station cells in August 1997.

District Commander Superintendent Sandra Manderson says that incident was investigated and overseen by the Solicitor General and the Crown Solicitor.

She says civil proceedings were taken where Maria Black had full legal representation and her claims were settled by the Court.

Police believe her case is nothing like the Louise Nicholas incident that's sparked a national inquiry.
