Dewar on leave during inquiry

A former detective accused of mishandling police pack rape complaints is on leave of absence from his management role at St John's Ambulance.

The role of former Rotorua CIB chief John Dewar in handling Louise Nicholas' rape complaints will be examined by a commission of inquiry into allegations.

Dewar is now the Human Resources Manager for St John's Midland region.

St John's Chief Executive Jaimes Wood says a mutual decision for Dewar to take a leave of absence will allow him to focus on the inquiry.
