Inquiry hears rape claims in a fortnight

Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate how police handled rape allegations of 1980s has public meeting March 22

The Commission of Inquiry into police handling of rape allegations will to begin in two weeks.

Its first public meeting will be in Wellington on March 22.

The inquiry was sparked after Rotorua woman Louise Nicholas raised concerns that allegations she made that she was pack-raped in a Rotorua house in the 1980s when she was 18 were not properly investigated.

She alleges the men involved were policeman Clint Rickards and two former officers, Brad Shipton and Bob Schollum.

Public notices are going into newspapers asking anyone who wants to make a submission or become a party to the inquiry to register their interest.

They have until next Monday to do so.
