Police officer faces sex charges
A former police officer has been
charged in the Auckland District Court with rape and other sex offences dating
back 16 years.
The 45-year-old, who has name suppression,
faces seven indictable charges relating to allegations made by a Northland
woman.
The complainant alleges she was
raped at a Northland police station in March 1988.
She complained at the time, but a
police sergeant failed to take a statement or notes.
Her alleged attacker was never
charged, but was later discharged from the force.
The woman unsuccessfully sued the
Attorney General in 1994.
The case was reopened as part of the
Commission of Inquiry into sex allegations against several police officers.
The accused was remanded on bail
until March for a depositions hearing.
