Lawyers for three men
who are to stand trial on charges of raping and sexually assaulting a Rotorua
woman intend to try and stop the case going ahead. Auckland police
assistant commissioner Clint Rickards and former police officers Brad Shipton
and Bob Schollum face 20 charges of raping, sexually violating and indecently
assaulting Louise Nicholas in 1985 and 1986. The three men were
committed to trial after a two-day depositions hearing. But their lawyers have
indicated they will seek a court order staying the proceedings on the grounds
that the amount of publicity given to the case means they can't get a fair
trial. |
