Assistant Police Commissioner
Clint Rickards and two former police officers go on trial today accused of
the rape of Rotorua woman Louise Nicholas in 1986. The three-week trial
was shifted last year from Rotorua to the High Court at Auckland. Despite the
publicity since the case first hit the headlines more than two years ago, the
media is under strict suppression orders and cannot reveal the history of the
case. Permission to record or
film inside the courtroom has also been denied. Mr Rickards, who has
been stood down from his position since he was charged a year ago, and former
policemen Brad Shipton and Bob Schollum face a total of 20 charges of rape
and indecent assault. |
