Council to discuss Woods case next month
by Fergal Bowers

The Medical Council will decide at the end of January whether to publish the report of the 40-day inquiry into allegations of professional misconduct against social campaigner, Dr Moira Woods.

The full meeting of the Council will also decide what penalty, if any, should apply to Dr Woods who has been found guilty of professional misconduct. Dr Woods is entitled to appeal any decision to the High Court.

It follows the decision late last week of the Council's Fitness to Practise Committee to refer the issue of publication and circulation of the report among the families who made complaints, to the full Council.

Dr Woods has denied the allegations that she made false claims of child sexual abuse against a number of families.

The families are seeking an apology from the Department of Health, interim compensation and have threatened to go to the High Court to secure publication of the report.
