The Medical Council has criticised management at the sexual assault treatment unit at the Rotunda hospital in Dublin over its role in the child sexual abuse controversy involving Dr Moira Woods.

Almost a year after it found Woods guilty of professional misconduct, the Medical Council yesterday said some mistakes were made by the management of the treatment unit.

The council found Woods guilty of misconduct following an investigation of allegations by five families that they had been falsely accused of child sex abuse.

Woods was then director of the sexual assault treatment unit in the Rotunda.
