Case opens against police accused

The prosecution has opened its case against former policemen Bob Schollum and Brad Shipton and suspended Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards.

The men are on trial at the High Court in Auckland charged with kidnapping and indecently assaulting a 16-year-old girl in the mid 1980s.

Prosecutor Mark Zarifeh says the 16-year-old was dating Brad Shipton at the time of the alleged incident. He says Shipton used to regularly suggest including Bob Schollum in their sexual relationship, but she always refused.

Mr Zarifah says on the night of the alleged incident the complainant went to a house where she was forced into a room, pinned down by the three men, handcuffed and then sexually assaulted with a bottle. He says after the alleged attack Bob Schollum told her not to tell anyone what had happened.
