Another trial for police trio re 1980s sex charges

A senior policeman and two former officers acquitted of sexual offending in the 1980s will go on trial on Monday, in relation to separate allegations.

Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards, and former officers Brad Shipton and Bob Schollum are to appear at the High Court in Auckland.

Last year, a jury cleared them of 20 charges of sexual violation and indecent assault against a Rotorua woman, Louise Nicholas, in 1986. The jury of seven women and five men delivered its verdict on March 31, 2006, after three days of deliberations following a two and a half week trial at the High Court at Auckland.

All three now face charges in relation to another complainant in the 1980s. Extensive suppression orders apply to the charges.

A 12-member jury is expected to be impanelled on Monday. The trial is set down for two weeks.
