Cross examination continues in assault case

The woman who has accused suspended Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards and two former officers of indecent assault will continue to be cross examined today.

Rickards, Bob Schollum and Brad Shipton have pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and indecent assault of the girl in Rotorua 23 years ago.

The woman described how she had gone to a house and was handcuffed to a bedpost. The woman says the policemen laughed as they assaulted her. The court heard that she was in a consensual sexual relationship with Shipton when the alleged attack took place. The woman told the court Schollum told her she and her family could suffer if she said anything about the incident.

She became upset under cross examination, shaking and crying. Rickards' lawyer claimed there were so many discrepancies in her evidence, she couldn't be believed. Shipton's lawyer also began cross examination, claiming his client had a moustache at the time of the incident and was not clean shaven as the woman claimed.
