A former All Black has been called
in the defence of a top police officer accused of sexually assaulting a
sixteen-year-old girl in the 1980s. Steve McDowell gave evidence that
Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards was on crutches when the alleged
offences occurred. Defence lawyers have been arguing
that Rickards' immobility after knee surgery meant he was incapable of
meeting the victim as she claims. Rickards is on trial along with
former officers Bob Schollum and Brad Shipton over an alleged assault in
1984. |
