Rickards expected to take the stand today

A top police officer accused of sexually assaulting a teenager in Rotorua in the eighties is due to take the stand in his own defence today.

A mother of four claims Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards, along with Brad Shipton and Bob Schollum sexually assaulted her in 1984.

Rickards is expected to be among defence witnesses, after he gave evidence last year in the Louise Nicholas trial where he and the two others were acquitted on 20 charges.

Lawyers for Shipton and Shollum said yesterday it was too early to say if their clients would take the stand at all.
