Crown Closes In Police Sex Case

The Crown has described the alleged indecent assault of a woman when she was 16 years old by three police officers as a vile and sinister incident.

Assistant Commissioner Clint Rickards and former officers Brad Shipton and Bob Schollum are accused of kidnapping and assaulting the woman in Rotorua in the 1980s.

They're on trial at the High Court in Auckland.

In his closing address this afternoon, the Crown prosecutor Brent Stanaway told the jury the complainant is honest and the core of her account is reliable.

He said any inconsistencies in her evidence are peripheral.

Mr Stanaway said the offending was about degradation and humiliation, displaying what the accused could get away with because of who they were.
