Police trial jury in deliberation

The jury at the trial of the suspended assistant commissioner of police and two former colleagues are continuing their deliberations

The jury, comprising eight men and four women, deliberated for more than eight hours on Wednesday before retiring for a hotel for the night just before 10pm.

Forty-six-year-old Clint Rickards, Brad Shipton, 49, and Bob Schollum, 54, are accused of kidnapping indecently assaulting a 16-year-old with a bottle in Rotorua between November 1983 and August 1984.

In his summing up in the High Court at Auckland, Justice Potter told jury members to set aside any views they may have about a previous case, which was held last year,  in which the same men were acquitted of 20 charges including rape and sexual violation.

Each man faces one charge of kidnapping and one of indecent assault, so the jury has six verdicts to reach.
